John Karlton has enjoyed a long and fruitful career in real estate spanning 50 years. He founded J.S. Karlton Company, Inc. in 1978 and since its inception has invested in a portfolio of properties aggregating nearly $1.5 Billion in value.

John Karlton began his real estate career as a salesman in New York City, concentrating on the sale of established hotel properties, and later managed properties owned by local investor John Avlon & Company. From 1957 to 1960,he became associated with the real estate division of the IBM Corporation, constructing for IBM nearly 100 company facilities throughout the U.S. From 1960 to 1969 he was President of North American Development Corp., developing office buildings and retail shopping centers along the East Coast of the US. During this period, he participated in the creation of the first net lease shopping center, several discount retail centers, and the headquarters of United Nuclear Corporation. In 1969, he became a private investor with a group focused on large land development projects in Chicago, Illinois.

Subsequently, as Executive Director of the Saga Bay project, a major effort to create an entire new city on 2,800 acres of property in the proximity of Miami, Florida, John Karlton was responsible for all aspects of planning, development, sales and operations of a new planned community, including the establishment of governmental functions.

From 1974 until the founding of J.S. Karlton Company, he completed the development of a series of retail centers that catered to smaller retail boutiques. Since founding J.S. Karlton Company, he has acquired and operated a wide range of commercial properties, from apartments and mixed use buildings to office and industrial properties, either individually or in partnership with other investors.
